On Thursday afternoon, Angel Reese launched the first episode of her brand-new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” and she didn’t spend any time getting into the trending subjects. The Chicago Sky star, who cohosts with Maya Reese, immediately brought up their long-standing rivalry with Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark.
Angel put an end to any animosity between the two athletes by highlighting her regard for Clark both on and off the court. Angel also revealed the awful animosity that has grown from fans as the rivalry is assumed to intensify, giving an idea of how bad things have gotten.
“Caitlin is an amazing player, and I’ve always thought she was an amazing player,” Angel Reese said on Episode 1 of her podcast. “We’ve been playing each other since high school … And like knowing that, there has never been beef. We talked trash to each other in AAU, it’s been that. But I think it’s really the fans, her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans, they ride for her. And I respect that, [when it’s] respectfully.
But, sometimes, it’s very disrespectful. I think there is a lot of racism when it comes to it. And I don’t believe she stands on any of that … I don’t believe in my heart she has hatred toward me. And I’m sure she believes I don’t have hatred toward her.”
Angel continued by saying that she had received death threats and that individuals had followed her home or discovered her address. She also disclosed that her family had received pornographic AI photographs of her from people on the internet. Regrettably, it is not shocking to learn of this utterly horrible conduct.
It only takes a cursory glance at a social media comment section to witness the intense hatred that Angel has encountered. And there’s no doubting that part of it comes from that community, even though it’s undoubtedly not all from Clark’s admirers.
The fact that Angel is obviously capable of handling the persistent disrespect is encouraging, but it is still quite depressing that she had to learn how to put up with it in the first place.
Undoubtedly, Angel is aware that Clark has her own struggles to overcome, and there’s no doubting it. But two wrongs do not equal a right. All of this “rivalry” has gotten way too nasty.
