Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is getting ready for Week 2’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, but his family is dealing with a devastating event.
On Friday, September 13, three days before the Chiefs play the Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium, quarterback Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes, shared some tragic information about the QB’s grandfather on social media.

“Prayer warriors, please pray for my dad,” she wrote on X. He is not feeling well and is in the hospital. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Randy is his name. In addition to being the grandmother of Mahomes’ two children with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and the mother of 23-year-old Jackson Mahomes and 13-year-old Mia Randall, Randi is also very close to her father.
“Randi believes that her humble, tight-knit town and her parents made her the woman she is today,” reads the bio section of her website. Growing up in the rural East Texas town of Troupe, Randi joked on Instagram last August about having “almost got daddy to smile!!! #family #myrock #mygirl #daddy #blessed” beside a photo of herself and her father.
In March, the father and mother of the three-time Super Bowl MVP got together for a brief family get-together. Randi posed with her father with all three of her children and her two grandkids, Bronze, age one, and Sterling, age three. “Priceless time with my family ❤️ God is so Great,” Randi wrote as the post’s caption.
After seeing Randi’s tweet on Friday, Chiefs Kingdom immediately flooded the post’s comments with prayers. One fan posted, “Praying for your family!” Another person wrote, “God protect and comfort this family. Bless Randy and heal him.”
