Patrick Mahomes’ Ex-Teammate Had Blunt Message For Him After Trash Talk

Last night, Patrick Mahomes watched Game 3 of the American League Division Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium.

Mahomes attended the game with a few visitors, including Gehrig Dieter, a former teammate of his who was wearing Yankee stuff, and was dressed out in a Royals shirt. The TBS cameras captured Mahomes trash talking his friend after the Royals scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at two. But Giancarlo Stanton’s eighth-inning home shot gave the Yankees the victory, and Dieter had the last laugh.

Dieter, a wide receiver for the Chiefs from 2018 to 2022 before retiring in 2022, made light of Mahomes’ taunting of him on X/Twitter, joking that he nearly got clocked for it.

Dieter wrote, “Buddy almost got 2 pieced @PatrickMahomes #repbx.”

Dieter, who was named after Yankees great Lou Gehrig, emphasized in a later interview with TMZ that he and Mahomes were merely kidding around.

“Nothin’, but fun. It’s funny how the whole video has kinda gone viral and some people are taking it out of context but it’s all fun and games,” he told TMZ.

“The Yanks obviously took an early lead, I was pretty loud in a quiet environment with the Royal fans around but when there’s a spark of energy like that goin’ on in that inning, obviously [Mahomes] is gonna get fired up, and have some fun,” Dieter added.

With a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series, the Yankees will try to wrap things up tonight in Game 4. If the Royals manage to avoid elimination, Saturday’s Game 5 will take place at Yankee Stadium.
