In the third game of the Kansas City Royals vs. New York Yankees playoff series, Patrick Mahomes seemed to be enjoying himself, but did the Chiefs quarterback go overboard in his celebrations?
The quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, a three-time Super Bowl winner whose father was a Major League Baseball player, is a die-hard Royals supporter. In actuality, Mahomes also owns a small minority share of the team. After winning his first Super Bowl in 2020, he made sports history as the youngest minority owner. When Mahomes isn’t preoccupied with his own football season and off-the-field obligations, he frequently attends Royals games.
Mahomes is at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night with his brother Jackson, wife Brittany, and wide receiver Gehrig Dieter, who was formerly a teammate of his in the Chiefs. Dieter, a former teammate of his, is named after Lou Gehrig and is an avid Yankees fan. In addition, he has brothers named Thurman Munson and Nolan Ryan.
The Royals tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a spectacular triple by second baseman Michael Massey. Juan Soto of the Yankees was unable to reach the ball with his diving catch after the second baseman blasted a soaring line drive to right field. In right center field, the ball rolled to the wall, allowing outfielder Kyle Isbel to score from first base.
Mahomes was so excited that he started making fun of his good friend and former colleague.
It appeared to be all in good humor, but Mahomes is facing criticism for going too far with his celebration on Wednesday night (unless you’re Dieter, of course).

“Mahomes acting like a punk after this one,” one fan wrote.
“Mahomes is classless,” one fan added.
“Mahomes seems as annoying as his brother,” one fan added.
“The Mahomes’ continue to be the most annoying people on earth,” another fan suggested.
“Mahomes is annoying….very annoying,” one fan added.
It makes sense that Mahomes is passionate about his team, but if someone smacks you in the face like that, whether a friend or not, you should probably take some offense.
Did the quarterback, who has won three Super Bowls, overreact in his celebration?
TBS will broadcast Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series on Wednesday night. In anticipation of Thursday night’s potentially series-clinching Game 4, the Royals hope to establish a commanding 2-1 lead.
