Scooter Braun made fun of Taylor Swift’s star-studded Rhode Island event last weekend by making a direct joke about her. The now-retired music manager, 43, who has been involved in a long-running argument with Swift, 34, disclosed on Instagram that he has seen the Max documentary, Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, about their falling out.
With the remark, “How was I not invited to this?” he posted a story about her celebrations in her estate with friends Blake Lively and Channing Tatum. “Laugh a Little” was the hashtag that came after this. According to DailyMail.com, Taylor and Travis Kelce celebrated actress and best friend Lively’s 37th birthday over the weekend by inviting their closest friends and their kids to the singer’s estate.
In 2019, Braun became entangled in a notorious issue involving Swift, following the music mogul’s acquisition of her master recordings from Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta. Swift voiced her unhappiness about the high-profile deal in a June 2019 Tumblr post.
“In essence, someone who attempted to destroy my musical legacy is going to hold it,” Swift remarked. “I pleaded and begged for a chance to own my work for years.” Rather, I was offered the chance to re-sign with Big Machine Records and “earn” back one album at a time—one for each new one I completed.
Braun went on to sell the master tapes for over $300 million, about a year and a half later. After releasing the albums Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Swift has stated that she plans to re-record her first six records.
Braun announced in a statement in June that his tenure as music manager was coming to an end and that he would now be joining the board of Hybe and serving as CEO of Hybe America.
“My journey began 23 years ago when a 19-year-old kid in Atlanta, Georgia started managing an artist named Cato,” he said at the beginning of his statement. I have encountered so many things along the road that I could never have imagined.
