Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been close friends for a while. However, Selena and her co-stars gave a peculiar nod to the pop diva and her NFL star boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in the most recent episode of Gomez’s Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building. Swifties immediately got into it, discussing how odd the shoutout was and how it might have come out as impolite.
Selena Gomez is spotted on a couch next to a life-sized doll that bears a striking resemblance to a certain musician, according to Page Six. The doll resembles Taylor Swift to the exact degree, sporting red lipstick and blonde hair. That’s not where this ends, though.
Additionally, the doll is seen sporting an 87-number jersey. For the Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce plays at number 87. Even though this shoutout seemed harmless enough, some of Taylor’s followers felt that it was strange and unsettling.
The Swifties then showed up in the post’s comment section to talk about the shoutout.
“This was kind of creepy and weird. I’m not sure Taylor would even approve. It probably wasn’t meant to be mean, but it could come across as rude,” said one fan.
“I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about this,” wrote another.
One other fan asked, “Was she trying to give a cute shoutout or throw shade?“
It appears reasonable to state that viewers of the show and followers of Taylor are somewhat perplexed by the entire circumstance.
It doesn’t appear likely, though, that this was intended to be offensive in any manner. Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are good friends. Even in public, the two have been spotted hanging out together. Was this an innocent shoutout, but was there something more going on here?
