A music artist and a football player’s romance will be the main focus of “Christmas in the Spotlight.”A Lifetime Christmas film is based on the most popular celebrity couple right now, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The cable network’s yearly “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday schedule includes the film Christmas in the Spotlight, which will premiere later this year. The protagonist of the tale is a pop singer named Bowyn (Jessica Lord), who hasn’t found Mr. Right until she runs into a football player named Laith Wallschleger backstage during one of her performances. This may seem familiar.

Later this year, the movie Christmas in the Spotlight will hit the cable network’s annual “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday program.
The main character of the story is Jessica Lord’s Bowyn, a pop singer who hasn’t found Mr. Right until she meets Laith Wallschleger, a football player, backstage during one of her concerts. You might recognize this.
And what does this have to do with Christmas? “The pair has until the end of the holiday season to decide if they want to stay together, or let it go down in flames,” per the logline.
The film will also include model and TikTok influencer Haley Kalil as Drew’s sister-in-law, and TV host Jeannie Mai as Bowyn’s manager.
Even if it wasn’t directly inspired by Swift and Kelce, the Christmas narrative in the Spotlight has many similarities to the genuine romance: The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and Swift went to Swift’s performance in his home stadium last year before they started dating.
He subsequently said on his and brother Jason’s New Heights podcast that he intended to gift Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number after the show but was unable to get around to it. Shortly after, the two started dating; Swift watched Thursday’s NFL season opener in the stands as well as other Kansas City Chiefs games last season.
With official league approval, Hallmark, Lifetime’s main rival in the cable holiday movie market, is also incorporating the NFL into one of its productions. Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, which will be aired by Kansas City-based Hallmark, will feature elements of the team’s branding and filming at Arrowhead Stadium. The film is scheduled to debut on November 30.
The script for Christmas in the Spotlight was written by Lifetime holiday film veteran Eirene Tran Donohue. Michelle Ouellet is the director. The film is being produced by Off Camera Entertainment. Richard Foster, Chet Fenster, Stephanie Slack, and Margret Huddleston serve as executive producers for GroupM Motion Entertainment.
