Taylor Swift fans were appalled by a newly unveiled wax figure of the pop star at Germany’s Panoptikum museum.
The statue made its debut on Tuesday, August 13. But aside from blonde hair and a sparkly outfit, the sculpture bared little resemblance to the Cruel Summer singer, 34 – and fans were quick to let the museum and artist know.
Lisa Büscher, a Berlin-based artist, painstakingly created the artwork over the course of seven months. The glittery blue and pink romper with sequins and knee-high boots with embellishments adorned the wax figure of Swift.
Similar like Swift in real life, the figure was poised doing the singer’s well-known “heart hands” gesture and had long blonde hair with bangs.
Büscher commented, “Achieving the perfect likeness is particularly challenging when it comes to a wrinkle-free, flawless beauty,” about creating the pop culture art piece. Creating her hands in the classic heart position was especially difficult. It was difficult to coordinate such that the hands met nicely in front.
“The same goes for the painting of the head. After all, a wax figure shouldn’t look ‘waxy’”.
Even though the artist truly tried to recreate Swift’s likeness, harsh online critics weren’t impressed with the final product. Swifties flocked to the Instagram comment area when the museum proudly displayed the new wax statue, offering their opinions.
“What did they do to Taylor 😨?” a fan inquired.
A third person said, “Wow, nothing is right here,” while another made fun of the stature, saying it appeared to be something Taylor Swift had purchased from Wish.
The wax figure’s attire was inspired by the singer’s actual appearance at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she wore a blue sequined dress.
However, the statue’s nose and face looked significantly longer and narrower than those of the real Tortured Poet’s Department singer.
One fan commented: “The face doesn’t fit at all… unfortunately”.
A second critic added: “Looks like a hit singer. But not like Taylor.”
Fans have drawn attention to the statue’s strangely placed hands in addition to the strange face the wax figure is making.
Swift typically forms a heart with all of her fingers as she gestures to the crowds during her sold-out gigs. The fake hands of the figure are positioned so that just the thumb and index finger form a heart, while the other fingers are conspicuously standing straight up.
As one Instagram user noted: “Taylor always uses her entire hand to complete the heart. It should have been obvious to you right away while conducting study. As humiliating as h— ”
A few weeks following the 34-year-old pop star’s performance in Germany during the European leg of her wildly popular Eras Tour, the figure was unveiled.
Unfortunately, after three accused extremists were detained over alleged preparations to carry out a terror act during the gigs, Swift was forced to postpone her recent concert appearances in Vienna.
