Travis Kelce On Verge Of Significant Chiefs Record

The Kansas City Chiefs are tied for the NFL’s best record at 11-1, but it may be misleading, as nine of those wins have come by seven points or fewer.

For the second year in a row, their offense hasn’t been that potent, but even more than last season, they lack firepower on that side of the ball.

Chiefs star Travis Kelce has long been considered the best tight end in the league, but his numbers are down this season, and he may have ceded that title. Kelce does lead the Chiefs with 75 catches and 637 receiving yards.

And entering the “Sunday Night Football” game against the Los Angeles Chargers, he needs just one more touchdown reception to pass Tony Gonzalez for the most in franchise history.

Gonzalez played for the Chiefs from 1997 to 2008 and during that time had 76 touchdown receptions. After playing his final five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Gonzalez was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and he still has more receiving yards than any tight end in history with 15,127.

At the time of his retirement, he also led all tight ends in touchdown catches, but that record was later surpassed by Antonio Gates.

Kelce has a long way to go to reach either of those career marks, and he may not want to continue playing that much longer, but right now, he’s focused on something more important: a third straight Super Bowl championship for the Chiefs.
