The king of Travis Kelce‘s heart? Taylor Swift, of course. The NFL star let that be known on Aug. 28, when he appeared alongside teammates Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, Nick Bolton, Justin Reid and Harrison Butker at a roundtable discussion hosted by Kansas City Chiefs announcer Mitch Holthus.
“We love you,” Kelce told Holthus on behalf of his fellow players, before the emcee jokingly asked if he would “love me more than Taylor.” After a beat, the tight end sheepishly replied, “Maybe not.”
Holthus went on to joke that he wouldn’t try that question on Mahomes, who has been happily married to his high school sweetheart Brittany Mahomes since 2022. “I won’t hold you up to that,” he quipped to the quarterback. “I know that answer.”
The Chiefs panel comes amid rumors that Travis is ready to kneel to the ground and pull out a ring, with ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter recently setting speculation into overdrive.
“I have a question,” he said to fellow sports reporter Laura Rutledge during the Aug. 27 broadcast of NFL Live, after she made an on-air joke about Kelce purchasing a racehorse named Swift Delivery but not a diamond for his girlfriend. “How do you know that Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?”
And when Rutledge—as well as panelist Booger McFarland and Andrew Hawkins—asked if there was some “big news” he was going to share, Schefter smirked and replied, “All I did was ask a question about how Laura knew he hadn’t bought an engagement ring.”
“The awkward silence right there speaks volumes, Schefty,” McFarland quipped. “America wants to know.”
Indeed, Swifties everywhere have been curious to know if the “Lavender Haze” singer is gonna be Kelce’s bride. In fact, he had to shut down engagement rumors six months ago, when he was preparing for the 2024 Super Bowl.
“I’m focused on getting this ring,” he told reporters at the time, referencing the prize awarded to Super Bowl winners. “That’s all my mind is focused on right now.”
Still, the athlete couldn’t help but to gush about his “unbelievable” girlfriend.
“She’s re-writing the history books herself,” Kelce said, “and I told her I’d have to hold up my end of the bargain and come home with some hardware too.”
Spoiler alert: He did.
