Even though the Kansas City Chiefs are 11-1 for the season and just clinched a playoff berth before any other team in the NFL, significant questions remain about the team, especially on the offensive end.
The Chiefs arguably won more games than they should have so far, considering their underwhelming offense since the beginning of the season. In fact, they are currently the 11th-best offense in the league.
Considering how they have been a top-ten unit for the majority of the Andy Reid era, this is somewhat concerning heading into the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes is having a notably down season, as he has already thrown 11 interceptions in 12 games.
As a result, Travis Kelce is having a career-worst season in terms of yards per reception and touchdowns. The star tight end addressed the struggles in the latest episode of his podcast New Heights.
On the newest episode of the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, Travis admitted shockingly that he’s simply “not on the same page” with his MVP quarterback.
“I’m just not on the same page as Pat,” he said. “It can get frustrating. It can get (expletive) frustrating. That’s for damn sure.” One example? Kelce has 75 receptions for 637 yards and two touchdowns this season, putting him on pace for the fewest touchdowns and lowest yards per game of his career.
“Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man,” he said. “Once we get in that red zone, man, I get a little hungrier and right now, for whatever reason this year, I just can’t find my way in the end zone.”
Mahomes is in a similar statistical boat, as he’s thrown for 2,979 yards and 19 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. … so he’s on pace for his lowest touchdown and yards per game rate while approaching a career-high in interceptions.
The good news for the Chiefs? They are large and in charge in the AFC East and still within reach of being the top seed in the AFC if they can stay one step ahead of the Buffalo Bills.
