‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ is hosted by the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. It premieres on Wednesday, October 16.
Growing up, Travis Kelce was not only good in sports but also excelled academically.
In a Wednesday, October 2 interview that was featured in Extra, the Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? The 34-year-old host claimed to be “one of those kids that tested rather high” in school but to choose sports above academics.
However, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs pointed out that his “realm” is “STEM, science, math, things like that” when it comes to the questions on the show, which puts celebrities to the test on a variety of topics taken from the elementary school curriculum.
“I just stay in there. But any history questions, I’m like, ‘I don’t know if anybody knows that,’ and sure enough, everybody does but me,” he joked.
The NFL player acknowledges that his brother, retired player and Monday Night Countdown analyst Jason Kelce, was the “very studious” one.
“He was an honors student,” said Kelce. “He tested well and all that and everything. He decided to be in all advanced classes. I was like ‘that’s too much homework for me.’ But yeah, Jason, I think he would do pretty good [on the show].”
“I’ll be interested to hear him talk about it when he sees it,” he added.
When he was announced as the host of the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? spinoff in April, the football player—who is also a member of the Grotesquerie cast—told fans that he “grew up loving game shows.”
“I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are you Smarter than a Celebrity? The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining.” he said.
“I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up,” his statement continued.

Do You Think You’re Smarter Than a Star? launches on Prime Video on October 16 with the first three episodes, with weekly releases to come. On Monday, October 7, in Kansas City, Kelce and the Chiefs will take the field to play the New Orleans Saints on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
