CINCINNATI — The Bengals’ defensive line could use to gain more muscle. Even if rookie McKinnley Jackson is making improvement with his knee injury, having a seasoned nose tackle on the roster would be good.
For this reason, Cincinnati might find Mike Purcell, a seasoned defensive tackle, to be a great fit. During the previous season, the 33-year-old played in 16 games with 10 starts for the Broncos.
On Wednesday, the Patriots dismissed him from his contract. He had signed with New England on August 1.
Despite being the oldest player on the Bengals’ squad, Purcell has proven to be resilient. Over the past three seasons, he has played in at least 13 games and finished with 103 tackles and five quarterback hits.
It makes sense to believe Purcell can strengthen the Bengals’ defensive line. He must surpass Travis Bell, Domenique Davis, and Jay Tufele. Having another veteran around might also be beneficial for Jackson’s development.
