At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place today at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, the record-breaking pop queen arrived fashionably late wearing a striking tartan gown.
The black-and-yellow Reputation-core ensemble featured a long train at the back that resembled a ball gown, a black miniskirt, and a zip-up corset top. Swift accessorized her revenge ensemble—which was inspired by Christian Dior’s Resort 2025 collection—with a plaid necklace that matched her gown, lace-up black leather opera gloves, and leather knee-high boots to make it even more stunning.
For added drama, she accessorized her eyes with jet-black makeup and her lips with a blood-red hue.
The pop sensation is anticipated to make the announcement of the release of her re-recorded album Reputation—the one she wrote about Kanye and Kim Kardashian—on the same platform where the rapper famously interrupted her acceptance speech fifteen years ago, as Swifties on the internet have predicted.
Taylor changed her outfit during the show, no one knows exactly why she switched outfits, but recent photos from the VMAs shows her wearing a different outfit from the one she arrived the VMAs in.
With her rerecorded “Taylor’s Version” albums and global Eras Tour, Swift achieved her highest point in her career both last year and this one. She had 12 nominations this evening, therefore it makes sense that she is at the top of the list.
She was the front-runner last year as well, and she dressed appropriately in a modest black dress that was coded for reputation. She accessorized the slinky black Versace dress with multiple layers of diamond and gold jewelry. The LBD had golden buttons all over, including across the bodice, ruched embellishments, and an asymmetric neckline. Additionally, it featured an extremely high slit on her leg where her black sandals showed out.
Swift’s 2009 VMA performance of “You Belong With Me” has earned her a nomination for Most Iconic Performance at tonight’s ceremony.
Beyoncé’s “Love on Top” (2011), Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am” (2000), Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” (2009), Katy Perry’s “Roar” (2013), Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” (1984), and Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Missy Elliott for their renditions of “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood” (2003) are among the other nominees in the category.
