Disney Cancel Taylor Swift’s Performance at Hollywood Sign

Despite claims that she was planning a concert at Los Angeles’ Hollywood sign tomorrow, Variety can confirm that Taylor Swift will not be appearing there.

News reports Tuesday morning revealed that production was in full swing for a Swift performance in collaboration with Disney+, much to the consternation of the local neighbors. However, according to a source, production withdrew its application, and the shoot has been canceled entirely. Even before production was halted, insiders claim Swift was never intended to appear.

All of this is leading up to the Disney+ release of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.” Swift said in February that the concert footage would exclusively air on the platform beginning March 14 at 6 p.m. PT, with a reported price tag of over $75 million.

The movie, which runs two hours and 45 minutes, originally deleted five songs from the setlist to save time, but the special will include “Cardigan” and “Maroon,” as well as three more acoustic songs that were not accessible in the theatrical or digital editions. According to her “Eras Tour” setlists, those songs could include “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” “You Are in Love,” and “I Can See You.”

Since its theatrical launch on October 13, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has grossed $261.7 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing concert film to date. The film was released digitally by Universal Pictures on December 13 (also Swift’s birthday), and it had three bonus tracks that were not included in the theatrical version: “Wildest Dreams,” “The Archer” and “Long Live.”

Swift is presently taking a break from the international leg of her “Eras Tour,” which will resume on May 9 at the Paris La Défense Arena. Her eleventh studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which she announced when accepting an award at the Grammys in February, will be released on April 19.
